Xiaomi Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro Take Over India

Xiaomi has updated its successful lineup of last year’s Redmi 5 phones by introducing 3 new phones.

The 3 new phones – namely the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro – have been launched in India. This year’s devices iterate the predecessors in several ways, while they maintain a typical Redmi footprint as before.

Redmi 6A

Redmi 6A is the successor to the cheapest Redmi phone Xiaomi has had ever created – the Redmi 5A.

It will be available on Amazon India as well as the official Mi website starting September 19, with the details as follows:

  • 2GB RAM + 16GB STORAGE – Rs. 5,999
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB STORAGE – Rs. 6,999

The newer device has a number of perks over the predecessor. The new Redmi 6A features a 5.45-inch HD+ (1440×720) display and has a pixel density of 295 PPI. Plus, the aspect ratio of the screen has been bumped to a modern 18:9 trend.

With the Redmi 6A, Xiaomi has opted for a 2.0GHz Helio A22 quad-core processor, based on 12nm architecture.

Photography elements on the mobile include a 13MP single-lens rear camera having an f/2.2 aperture with features like PDAF and full HD video recording capabilities. On the other hand, a 5MP front camera with goodies like portrait mode and AI-powered face unlock are there for taking selfies.

The smartphone comes with the speaker grill located on the rear panel. Interestingly, there is no fingerprint sensor on the phone just like the last year’s model. However, the Redmi 6A has the face unlocking feature which was missing on the Redmi 5A.

The Redmi 6A gets its juice from a 3000mAh battery, while it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.6 on top of it. Apart from that, the mobile measures 8.3mm thick, while it weighs 145g.

Key Features:

  • 45-inch full HD+, 18:9 with 295PPI
  • 13MP (f/2.2) rear, 5MP front-facing camera
  • Face unlocking
  • Helio A22 quad-core processor, 2.0GHz clock speed
  • Android 8.1 Oreo, 3000mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Black, Blue, Gold, Rose Gold colors

Redmi 6

Redmi 6 is the phone that fills the gap between the Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 Pro.

It will be available to the masses starting from September 10 on Flipkart and official Mi website with the following details:

  • 3GB RAM + 32GB STORAGE – Rs. 7,999
  • 3GB RAM + 64GB STORAGE – Rs. 9,499

Redmi 6

Although very similar to the Redmi 6A, the Redmi 6 is a beefed up version of the former. It has a dual rear-camera setup, along with a fingerprint scanner, making it a richer phone in comparison.

To begin with, the Redmi 6 flaunts the same display – a 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 panel – just like the other two phones launched alongside.

Powering the Redmi 6 is a Helio P22 octa-core processor, which is based on 12nm technology. The maximum clock speed is set at 2.0GHz.

For fulfilling the photography needs, the mobile features a 12MP+ 5MP AI based primary dual camera. The rear camera setup is also equipped with the portrait mode, alongside features like PDAF and LED flash.

Redmi 6 has a 5MP front camera which boasts beautify and portrait mode capabilities in addition with HDR and face unlocking mechanism.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.6 skin atop out of the box. To ensure the power backup, a 3000mAh is employed. Dimensionally, the Redmi 6 is 8.3mm thick and weighs 146g.

Key Features:

  • 45” HD+ (1440×720) 18:9 display, 295PPI
  • Helio P22 octa-core processor, 2.0GHz clock speed
  • 12MP + 5MP AI rear camera, 5MP front camera
  • Face unlocking, rear-mounted fingerprint reader
  • Android 8.1 Oreo
  • 3000mAh battery

Redmi 6 Pro

The Redmi 6 Pro is the most expensive and the most feature-rich smartphone among the Redmi 6 series devices. The device looks cosmetically similar to Xiaomi’s own Mi A2, which was announced over a month ago.

Its first sale will commence via official Mi website and Amazon India on September 11 with details as follows:

  • 3GB RAM + 32GB STORAGE – Rs. 10,999
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB STORAGE – Rs. 12,999

The mobile comes with a massive 5.84” FHD+ (1080×2280) notched display, carrying a pixel density of 432 PPI at an even taller 19:9 panel profile. Additionally, the Redmi 6 Pro screen boasts 500 nits brightness, ensuring great outdoor visibility, at least on paper.

An iPhone X-styled notch has become more of a norm among even the mid-budget Android phones recently. Hence, we are not shocked to see Xiaomi experimenting with the new trend in its top-end device in the latest series of smartphones.

The company has put a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU in Redmi 6 Pro, unlike the other two siblings.

Packing an efficient yet powerful processor from a microchip giant like Qualcomm, the Pro model is certainly a better choice compared to the Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 in terms of sheer power.

Talking about its optics, the Redmi 6 Pro features an AI-based 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera, and has features such as PDAF and LED flash apart from support for background blurring. Electric image stabilization (EIS) is also there to reduce the shakiness while shooting using the rear camera.

For taking selfies, the smartphone has a 5MP front camera. Various modes like AI portrait and AI beautify are also there to enhance the quality of photos. Strikingly, the front camera comes bundled with background blurring using single-lens too.

Just like the Redmi 6, the Redmi 6 Pro too has an AI face unlocking mechanism as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with a custom MIUI 9.6 skin running atop.

Another criterion that puts the Redmi 6 Pro far above the Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 is its battery capacity.

Possessing a gigantic 4000mAh battery that supports 5V/2A charging to fill it up, the Redmi 6 Pro will certainly last much longer, even with heavy usage throughout the day.

Redmi 6 Pro weighs 178 grams and measures 8.75mm thick.

Key Features:

  • Notched 5.84” FHD+ (1080×2280), 432PPI, 1500:1 contrast ratio
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core, 2.0 GHz clock speed
  • Adreno 506 GPU
  • 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera with EIS, 5MP front camera
  • Face unlocking, rear-mounted fingerprint reader
  • Android 8.1 Oreo
  • 4000mAh battery
  • Black, Red, Blue, Gold colors
